Eclectic SOMA Loft Penthouse

Eclectic SOMA Loft Penthouse

This client was especially fun to work with because she does not like things that are normal or safe.  She is extremely eclectic, a world traveler who loves to collect unique art and artifacts.  I am pretty intuitive.  I can usually tell, after a short time, what it is a client likes or does not like; this client and I were in synch from the beginning.  She introduced me to the term wu wei which she explained means “everything finding its proper place.”

We used wu wei when placing the furniture; we moved each piece around until we found the exact layout that felt right for the room. The windows at the back of the building looked out on an unattractive building, so we placed a translucent glass frame over the existing window.  Some of the more unusual but stunning design elements we created in the space were the book “wave” sculpture in the living room (which was inspired by a window display I once saw at Bergdorf’s in New York), the headboard in the master bedroom (a photo silkscreened onto fabric) and the beautifully industrial dining room (which was converted from the old elevator shaft).
